ABOUT

CPOA-North Carolina is a local franchise of the globally recognized College Prospects of America Inc. founded in 1986 and based in Logan, Ohio. The largest and most respected organization of its kind in the world proudly helps student-athletes and their families maximize their opportunities for athletic participation and scholarships in college.

Operating in North Carolina since 2009, the student-athletes we help locally represent students from every major sport in most of the area school districts. Our mission is to offer guidance, experience, and exposure to high school athletes and their parents and to generate admissions, playing and scholarship opportunities based on the student athlete’s educational, personal, and athletic needs. Our process is personal and strategically focused in order to make a significant difference in the future of the student-athletes we work with.

With over 25 years in the recruiting arena, CPOA is highly recognized by many college athletic programs. Our active role in uncovering potential prospects has enabled us to create and cultivate many solid relationships with coaches, athletic directors and recruiters. Since we are selective in the athletes that are accepted into the program, coaches across the U.S. know that every month they will receive information on qualified prospects free of charge.

We help talented young people from the US and many other countries with their sports recruiting needs. We help athletes get recruited.  Our primary goal is to help athletes find the best education at the best possible price, while allowing them to continue to participate in a sport they love.

Regardless of your sport, in order to be recruited by college coaches, coaches must be aware of you and your abilities.   With few exceptions, most sports programs do not have the recruiting budgets to actively scout out talent, especially out of state.   College coaches who do attend camps, clinics, and showcases are not there to scout out new talent – they are there to observe athletes they already know.

How do I know this?  I spent seven years as a college coach in men’s basketball and cross country (in addition to three years as a high school coach in baseball, softball, football, and basketball).  During my time as a college coach I promise you a few things…

1. I never went out blindly looking for new prospects.
2. I always recruited more heavily the kids who showed interest in us first.
3. I never had more than a couple hundred dollars a year to recruit with.
4. I took the e-mail address off every profile I received from CPOA and put it into my recruiting funnel.
5. I trusted info from CPOA a step above info received from parents and high school and club coaches that I did not know, and I signed CPOA clients.  Of course, if I knew a coach that sent me the info that was the preferred way.  But how many college coaches does an average high school coach know personally?
6. I witnessed families get great financial aid packages because they leveraged better offers from other schools.
7. I witnessed student-athletes get full financial aid packages at D3 private schools with a sticker price of as much as $30,000 a year.
8. I witnessed student-athletes get better financial aid packages from D3 private schools than they did at a D2 even including their “athletic scholarship”.
9. I got more than a hundred contacts a year from college freshman who decided to be a walk-on at a D1 school and it didn’t work out, and wanted to transfer.
10. I e-mailed and mailed over 2,000 kids a year. If I truly was “recruiting” them, I was calling them on the phone and going to watch them play in person.

In order for an athlete to get the best college education at the best price and continue to participate in collegiate athletics, he or she needs to get noticed by several coaches, and not just a handful.   And that is where College Prospects of America comes in!

At College Prospects of America, we create written color profiles of the student athlete and then mail them to every college (we have contacts with over 2,000 U.S. colleges and universities, including junior colleges) where the athlete can compete academically and athletically.  These profiles are also posted on our national website.  We also provide scouting, video editing and enhancement services, on-line streaming video, internet marketing, financial aid counseling, FAFSA form preparation and electronic filing, and unlimited guidance with respect to collegiate recruiting rules and regulations.

The best time for student-athletes to begin our program is during their freshmen, sophomore, or junior years, as most college coaches begin tracking prospective athletes that early.  However, even if you are a senior, it is not too late.  If you are not receiving phone calls from college coaches after July 1 prior to your senior year, then you are not being actively recruited.  If you are not receiving e-mails and mailings during your junior year then you coaches don’t know about you!

To learn more about how our program works, please email me at ryerson@cpoa.us and I will contact you to set up a free, no obligation meeting with you and your family.  Please also access our national CPOA website at www.cpoa.com for more information about CPOA and the recruiting process.
